Yeh ! Murray BALL'S cartoons have been a universal hit with all who know something about sheep dogs, and along with "Fred Dagg" & "Jock" have become iconic kiwi country, but that's really hijacking doddie's thread, and the other side of the world from Elgin, Scotland.

Hi mb, trust you to ask a leading question.
If you access the [above example] TV3 archival footage, from last years April sheep run at Te Kuiti, you will see that, instead of several thousand sheep being driven through the main shopping street, like the droving days of old, only several hundred made it to the regular end of the promotion, where the sheep are re-herded into stock trucks, for the journey back out of town. There can be, an expected few "escapes" but 2009 got out of hand, and the control of the organisers. It's all part of the hype surrounding one of the larger shearing competitions in the North Island, and as can be expected, there is a prize to be had for guessing the number of sheep involved.

Hello Alan,
Could be a problem with the link, try:
http://www.3news.co.nz/Te-Kuiti-Sheep-R ... fault.aspx
Those shearers could bring down the price of haircuts if they opened a barber shop.
With the sheep dashing about problem all they had to do was get someone to dress up in a sheep suit and go wherever and the sheep would have followed. If you travel around outback Australia you’ll see sections of road paved with wool. One sheep has decided to make a dash to cross in front of a road train and the rest of the flock has followed.
All the best,
Alan
