Yes, Gran did have a daughter from her first marriage and another son. Both died in infancy, and I have the birth and death certificates. They were named Bernard and Mary Ann Fox, and of course William's surname was also Fox and remained so after gran married granddad. The older child in this picture was named by the person who had the photo as Alice Maude Hannan, same surname as granddad. I have searched Scottish records for a birth, death or marriage for this child, but found nothing. My late father, born after this picture in 1929, has never mentioned anyone of that name either. My cousin, son of one of granddad's boys from first marriage, has also never heard her mentioned. The only other theory I have as a possibility is that grandad's father came over from Ireland according to census records. I have managed to find out little or nothing about him. It's a possibility that he may have had a brother and this was his child, taken in by granddad? I doubt if it was a visiting child as why would they be in the family photo if only visiting?
