Re: Anyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Hi Alan,
I've checked the list of reports but alas Cathcart hasn't been surveyed.
All the best,
Kenneth
p.s. I've noticed Woodhouse Farm has been surveyed so would be of interest to Sue. It's report no. 85, Low Hill and Wodhouse Farms and the farmlands of High Hill, Stepends and Broadflat, Eaglesham 2006. I'll borrow the report from G.U. Library and let you both know by PM.

Hi Kenneth,
I last saw Sue in January, and she informed me she now has more time to devote to her Family History research, so she will be very pleased, if you can find out more for her. All PM's will be greatly received by us both.
Having said that, I find it funny how, when there is a change in ones commitments, one assumes more time might be made available for discretionary pursuits, but some how, we still manage to lead busy challenging lives.

Sorry for my late reply.
Thank you Alan and Ken for your information & suggestions.
If interested in having a go see line 17 for "Lochlin" or whatever it maybe?

Hi All,
It is wonderful how much info has been gathered on Eaglesham on this thread. I was wondering if anybody had any info on the schools that were available there in the 19th century.

Greetings.
Having a LOCAL ANCHOR like Kenneth makes all the difference.
Likewise Russell with his patch. They have an eye and an ear, for gathering odd bits of information, that would be of family history interest to antipodean researchers. It's very much appreciated.

Strangely enough I may have info on the local schools in the 18th century!
I'll see what I can come up with...

Re: Anyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Hello David,
Re Lochlin.
I was hoping that someone good at handwriting would have a look. I have trouble reading my own. At High School a teacher told me that I would probably get higher marks if he could read my handwriting and it’s been deteriorating ever since.
His handwriting is a bit like mine, it may have something to do with poor eyesight. But he’s kept his lines perfect on what looks like unruled paper. I suspect he’s used one of those writing guide things behind the page.
It sort of looks like what you suggested, the line break doesn’t help.
No help at all,
Alan

Hi folks
Line 17 , I'm sure, actually says "lived" at ; so a rather mundane interpretation. I never thought that years of reading Doctors handwriting would come in useful.
I must admit that I was hoping for another wee snippet of Eaglesham social history. This whole thread has been fascinating. My interest in the place is modern. An aunt of my wife lived in Polnoon Street.

Re: Anyone know anything about Eaglesham?
Hi Russell,
I think the word David is looking for comes after lived, i.e.
"he lived at Lochlin ? at the head of the village.
It might be Lochlin but it isn't clear enough to convince me.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi all,
The first letter doesn't look like either the upper case L of "Langlee" or the lower case l of "learned." Looks more like Cocklin or Crekslin to me...
Regards,
Sarah
