Scott what a beautiful tribute to your sister. What a lovely gift to have her for such a short time as a family member. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Regards
Marilyn
P.S. How's the twins?
Happy Birthday Rabbie.

Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for your kind words. The twins are well, nearing fifteen months, life couldn't be busier. Hard to believe that Alexander will be three in a couple of weeks. Anyway, here are the wee darlings at fourteen months. http://www.scottwishart.co.uk/2009/01/blog-post.html#
Very best,
Scott

Aww Scott they're gorgeous I can't believe how grown-up they all are.
I'll bet you had a "fun" Christmas.
Your Kelly looks like she was an amazing young woman-ALL is a cruel disease.
What a lovely tribute for a such a beloved sister.

Rabbie is one of my ancestors and sorry to say he didn't write "Ae Fond Kiss" in memory of his daughter, but for Mrs Agnes McLehose (Clarinda). He gave the "poem" to her in Edinburgh on 6th Dec 1791, just before she left for Jamacia to join her husband!
I'm with Montrose Budie....its got to be "A Man's A Man for a' that"

The Correspondence between Burns and Clarinda. Published 1843.
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=JBV ... J&pg=PA272
LETTER LXVI.
SYLVANDER TO CLARINDA.
DUMFRIES, 27th December, 1791.
I have yours, my ever dearest Madam, this moment. I have just ten minutes before the post goes; and these I shall employ in sending you some songs I have just been composing to different tunes, for the Collection of Songs, of which you have three volumes, and of which you shall have the fourth.
SONG.
TUNE Rory Dall's Port.
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, and then for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
The next letter LXVII is to do with Clarinda’s departure for distant parts.
Hope that's interesting,
Alan

Yes we were talking about 'On The Poet's Daughter' http://books.google.com/books?id=kRYqAA ... &ct=result (sorry for the long link!) not Ae Fond Kiss, which incidentally, have you heard Eddi Reader singing it? Very pleasant.
Very best,
Scott
