Re: Update to TalkingScot forum software
Thanks Andrew,
I finally woke up to what it was. With Firefox I’ve been using “right click, open in a new tab” for ages but must have been so overawed by the new TS suit of clothes that I forgot such a thing existed.
Going bonkers,
Alan

Andrew,
A small point that's not important, but you may not be aware: Several times today I have ticked the box for "log me on automatically each time" and it is not happening.
Best regards, Mary Ellen

Hi Mary Ellen,
Are you by any chance logging off each time you finish viewing TS? If so, then that would be the reason that you can't log on automatically.
Regards,
Anne H

Hi Mary,
If you're a moron, then I am too!
It only took me about four years to realize that I shouldn't log off.

Anne H

Andrew
The new format looks great. I like the links bar function which has been added.
Does this forum allow users to change their login name and still keep all their posts, avatars etc? I have had a look in the user control panel and there isn't a function there but I'd imagine it would be an admin function anyway.
Regards

Re: Update to TalkingScot forum software
I've got another question. Sorry, I've been rooting about the new look forum!
On the banner if I click on 'User Control Panel' and then 'Show your posts' I can see all the posts I have made. However if I click on the 'View your posts' link on the banner I only see about half my posts. Can you explain the difference between a 'show' and a 'view'?
Regards
Adam

Re: Update to TalkingScot forum software
And another...
Some of the internal links on the forum seem to be broken. Not all of them though and I don't know if this is because of the upgrade or the problems earlier in the year and these links were already broken before the weekend.
The ones I've found are:
The link within page 2 of this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10505&start=15
And these URLs from other threads...
http://www.talkingscot.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=14340
http://www.talkingscot.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=14185
I'm not trying to find faults here honest.
Regards
Adam

Re: Update to TalkingScot forum software
I think I've worked it out.Adam Brown wrote:On the banner if I click on 'User Control Panel' and then 'Show your posts' I can see all the posts I have made. 'Show your posts' shows all the posts I've made.
'View your posts' only shows the threads I've posted on. If I've posted more than once it only shows the most recent post of mine in that thread.
Cheers

Re: Update to TalkingScot forum software
Hi Adam
The first link you mentioned was to the PowerPoint Presentation which was there to help give new members an overview of the forum, its featrues and uses. Because of the recent upgrade to the new software, the PP will need to be revised to reflect the new look and how to use the updated software, so is not currently available. (it is on my "to do " list!
)
The other links you have found refer to the last forum (forum2) which we were using up until the weekend, when the changeover occurred, so again, these are out of action for the moment. Eventually we will catch up with everything - it has been quite a busy year for us (with its moments of drama!) and we had not really completely reconnected all parts and links following the loss of the forum earlier this year. And now we have updated, which was a much needed move, but not without its own hiccups. I expect other links will come to light which are also currently not working - please don't hesititate to point them out as it is only with the help of our eagle eyed members that all the parts will be reconnected again!
The Mods and Admin are still discovering all the new features and characterisitics of our new "home" as well!
Best wishes
Lesley
