Hi Jo,I have Patrick Kelly born 1842 and died 1881 and his Wife Elizabeth White born 1839,having a Son called Peter 1855-1901.Peter Marries Jane Pollock 11th March 1881 in Larkfield,Blantyre.They have four children,Peter born 1884.Hugh Pollock 1888-1957,James born 1889 and Edward born 1896.Hugh Pollock Marries Mary Watson Fowler 31st January 1910 in High Blantyre.They have two children that i know of Peter and Robert 1930-2003.Robert Marries Janet Rafferty 16th July 1948 in Buckhaven,Fife.They have seven children,Robert born 1949,Hugh born 1950,Helen born 1952,Peter born 1954,Janet born 1956,Alexander born 1959,and Francis 1960-2010.I am married to Helen and we have two girls,If you can tell me where you come in that should help to fill in any gaps that i have,Regards,David

Hi Jo,you may already have this but i have James Kelly and Ann Browns children as follows,Agnes born 1911.Jean <after 1910> .Mary <after 1910>.Ann born <after 1910> . William <after 1910, dec after 1960> .Elizabeth born <after 1910>.and Peter 1934-1958.It came from a third party on Genes Reunited but as she is a member of this family i suggest all the details will be accurate.We know that this family have been pretty busy at having children,so we have to imagine that there is hundreds of this line of Kelly's from Patrick to 2011.Do you have Patrick coming from Ireland?I do,again it is from a third party,Regards,David

Here's what I've got so far:

I do have Peter Kelly's father Patrick as coming from Ireland. I note you have Patrick's death down as 1881? Do you have a copy of his death extract? It's just that on Peter and Jane's marriage extract (March 1881), Peter's mother Elizabeth is shown as Elizabeth Woods, previously Kelly (maiden name White).

Now bear with me here...

Peter's usual residence on the marriage extract is down as Larkfield, Blantyre. There's an Elizabeth White and Charles Woods living in Larkfield, Blantyre in 1881. I went looking for them in 1871 and found a Charles & Elizabeth Woods in Barnhill, Blantyre with a Peter and Edward Woods. I'm wondering if it could be them and they just named Peter and Edward, 'Woods' instead of 'Kelly' for the purpose of the census, and it wasn't until her two sons moved on, that they switched back to their real father's name? I think Peter may have a brother Edward (would support why one of his son's is named Edward), and I also think their father Patrick died some time before 1871. I think I may have found Edward on the 1881 census and 1891 censuses, and surprise surprise, his first son is called Patrick. This is all guess work of course, because I have yet to find Edward's death extract and check his parent's names.

Of course, if you have Patrick's death extract that will put an end to all this speculation [-o<

I have Peter's son James married to Ann Brown but don't have all the children you listed, so many thanks for that.

I also have two daughter's for Peter - according to the 1891 census = Elizabeth (born abt 1882) and Annie (born abt 1886).

Went looking for the so-called Edward's death...the one I found on the 1881 and 1891 censuses...it's not the Edward I was hoping it was, he has different parents.

Have you been able to trace Peter Kelly on the censuses prior to 1881?

By the way...I have lots of research on Mary Watson Fowler and her family if you wish to compare notes? I was very surprised to find out she was born in the USA! And did you know her cousin's son shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983? Check it out... here

Hi Jo,Wow!I am so happy that you can share this much information.I was told by one of Helen's Brothers that Mary was American,but i could find no link to this at all.I have her death in Buckhaven in **** ,so i automatically assumed she moved from mining community to mining community.Though when you read John Fowler's (Nobel Prize Winner) account he say's that the family came from Slamanan and emigrated to Pittsburgh to work in the mines.I shall never automatically assume anything again.It is Grand to know that this Fowler name is alive and kicking throughout the World.Two of Helen,s Brothers have Fowler as a middle name,and Mary and Hugh's family have Fowler as a middle name for seven of their children,i have never ever,come across that,.I said i would try and fill in the gaps for you but it is you Jo,that is filling the gaps for me.I do not have Peter pre 1881 but i do have some info from,i think Ancestry,looks like our family,coming from Barne,in Ireland then moving to Blantyre,but i have so many holes in this part of the story,They just so look like our Kelly line ,but the names are very common.At Hugh and Mary's wedding do you know who the witnesses are,Sarah and Peter Kelly?1868 Robina Watson's Mum's Maiden name,I have Piendmleith,never heard that name before,do you think it's right?I would love all the information you have on Mary Fowler,that would be great,possibly best on a PM though,Why was she also called Reilly?
