Hello Joette,
I used to drive like that. Ten minutes for something like Middlesex to Yoker was just a doodle. But my cars have gotten slower and I have gotten slower and now I'm not much faster than a roadblock.
All the best,
Alan

Hi Joette,
Would you happen to have any photos of B&W that you could post on the gallery from your great uncle's and grandfather's time?
Cheers

Re: Wisharts Buildings, Yoker
Hi Alistair,
Greetings from Yoker - as you know from the various responses the Wishart Building of Tenements is still standing , I live around the corner, and working on a project to document the history of Yoker
Back in 1906 the main Glasgow to Dumbarton Road was called Yoker Road, when the district of Yoker was annexed by Glasgow from Renfrewshire Yoker Road was renamed as Dumbarton Road, and subsequently all the street numbers changed. As an aside Dumbarton Road became the first street in the UK to have 4 digit House numbers!
I have a couple of old coloured postcards from around 1900 -1906 which I'd be happy to share with you, if your interested (including the Wishart Building).
Coincidently the corner shop you see on the small black & white picture posted in the thread was a Yoker institution (It was the Ferry Road later Kelso Cafe, run by Italian immigrants , among the specialities was fish & chips with mushy peas and their home made ice cream was legendary. The cafe survived in business into the mid 1980s, but the story doesn't end there as the family still have descendants working in the 2 shop premises next door - which are currently trading as a newsagents and travel agent .
Regards
Brian

Hi Brian,
Thanks for posting the message. Yes I would be interested in seeing the postcards and anything about the history of Yoker, especially around the time my father and his family were living there (late 1800s until the 1920s). I have sent you a private mail with my email address.
Cheers
