Hello Innes,

Looking at it from a different angle, I think this James Hutchison in 1861 could be the son of James Hutchison and Elizabeth Crawford. Obviously can't be sure without looking at his death entry but going by the IGI he's a strong candidate.

James Hutcheson
Age: 69
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1792
Relationship: Head
Gender: Male
Where born: Shilston, Lanarkshire
Registration Number: 646/1
Registration district: Govan
Civil Parish: Govan
County: Lanarkshire
Address: Fireworks
Occupation: Ceal Miner
ED: 16
Household schedule number: 84
Line: 15
Roll: CSSCT1861_114
Household Members: Name Age
Matthew Grona 8
Elizabeth Hutcheson 40
James Hutcheson 69
Jane Hutcheson 26
Agnes Patterson 18
Catherine Ross 17
James Ross 10

Of course he could be the son of a completely different James Hutchison and Elizabeth Crawford who were married at Alloa.

Regards,
Annette

I just found something interesting. If you click on this link http://www.gencircles.com/users/junestr ... ?Hutchison you’ll find a list of 60 or so Hutchison’s. On the second page the “Hutchison, James horsborough” link will take you to submitted information about the family, including notes at the bottom of some pages.

They have the death as 18 Sep 1861 in Edinburgh, but don’t say where the information came from. You’ll find a Submitter Info link on the left and a contact address.

Hello Alan,

Just tried the link again and it's working.

Innes,

There are at least 2 people who have submitted info to this site that have viewed a copy of the letter that William Murray Hutchison wrote.

Regards,
Annette

Harder than Cryptic Crosswords

Hi everybody! As you can tell, I've had an enormous amount of help with this topic, all of it succinct and to the point.
It's hard to express my thanks adequately, but if all the goodwill shown to me is replicated to others in an ongoing fashion, then there are going to be many happy members in Talking Scot now and in the future.
I shall try and absorb all that's been posted, and I look forward to reading other various topics posted, and the replies.
Thanks again from this land far away!

This might be worth a look at the original. There is no online image and I'm wondering if perhaps it is illegible.

It would fit with William's age in 1851.

08/02/1842 HUTCHISON ----- (no first name recorded)
(father)
JAMES HUTCHISON/ M St Cuthbert's EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/002 0510

Harder than Cryptic Crosswords

Getting there...but, before I order an extract from SP at the princely cost of 10 pounds (never mind that the A$ is really strong at the moment!), would I get anymore from it than I can get from the SP record of 08/02/1842, which tells me very little - not even whether or not it really is William Murray Hutchison and doesn't give his mother's name??
All the same, it does feel as if the end is getting very close!

Hi Innes,

Are you within reach of an LDS Family History Centre? If so, you could probably hire the microfilm in for less money than that an see for yourself if it is worth spending the money on an extract.

All the best,

Most LDS centres also have at least one microfilm film reader from which you can print direct from the film too.

Best wishes
