The c is just like the c in carry
The h is just like the h in that in line 7
e is just like the e in aforesaid
The k is unmistakeable...

Can't be anything but chek... so what does it mean?
Was it the rein for the Shelty? Are we talking about the weapon used, or is this incidental?

Regards,
Sarah

Without going into the 56 page translation in great detail. The "shalt" is the pony the husband rode home on. The word "chek" does not appear again, so far..............I'm only up to page 28!!!!!

The word shalt is confirmed by the fact that when the husband got home he "stabled the shalt". So that's definitely a Shetland Pony.

This evening a friend came to visit and she looked at the document and came up with the word "stick"

What do you all think? Could it be stick?

The word "stick" has not been seen in the translation up till now.

The victim was beaten about the head and lost two teeth and had another "loosed" Up till now there has been no suggestion that this was anything other than the accused using his fist.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean,
This evening a friend came to visit and she looked at the document and came up with the word "stick"
I look at images before I read any responses and it does look like check but "stick" was my first thought, then decided against it since I thought I'd read somewhere that the victim had been stabbed (could have been a sharp stick)...look how the "s" in the word "she" is written...it just might be "stick" without the line across the "t" :) Your friend might be right :)

Anne H

Hi Anne

Up till now there has been no suggestion that the attack was anything other than by the accused's fists. No mention of a stabbing. No mention of her being beaten by a stick.

Up till now I have only read her statement and her husband's statement.

Perhaps when I trawl through the other statements the mention of a stick may come into the equation.

Fascinating stuff!!!!

The victim, apart from being attacked, is most concerned at the loss of her mittens!!!!!!!!!!

Changed days

Best wishes
Jean

Those mittens must have been awfully important

No stabbing :!: Where did I get that from?  I really must be in bad shape today...blame it on my computer problems - it would drive one to drink

Hi Anne

I've been driven to drink wondering what a "chek" is

Hopefully someone will come up with something.

I feel so sorry for this old lady of 67 who was attacked, lost two teeth and had one "loosed" and then lost her mittens

Best wishes
Jean

I lost a glove the other day  so can sympathize with her plight
Fortunately, no one was wielding a chek in the vicinity, though :D

Let's hope that things will be clarified by the end of the document. Usually there is a good deal of repetition, so you may hear about it again.

All the best,
Sarah

Is it possible that the word is just a different spelling of check and that we should be looking at the definitions of carry. Maybe it means that he didn’t show any restraint or something like that.
