Lots of searching has not been able to supply an answer to "what killed Mr Robertson"

All ideas appreciated.

Hi Jack,

I see no clues to a cause of death in the section of document you uploaded. It seems to be a burial record only.
  • 30 ¦ Charles Robertson ¦ 28 Years ¦ 27 April ¦ of Aderey ¦
    Charles Robertson ground in
which the dec'd was laid in
the new ground at the west
    Dich north of grave the
    ... of ground then ...
    was in the ... ... ...
    ...
I take it there is more text downwards in the rightmost column belonging to this record.

What parish is this record from? Is the other record you uploaded from the same parish? I am presuming it is from the burial section of the Old Parochial Register (OPR) of that parish.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hello Jack,

If that column is definitely for the cause of death then I'd go for Acney.

Hi Jack,

My feeling is that column is the address of the deceased rather than the cause of death.

All the best,

I've just seen Andrew's post and like him I thought it was his residence.

When you zoom in, the upward line doesn't look as though it is part of the second letter but more of a flourish from the f in of. I'm not sure if it a c but I don't think it's a d.

Hope that makes sense.

This is from the burial book and that column lists only the perceived cause of death. I sorted out a couple other causes but the only one I need to know about is this particular one.

So, a clue in Acney as a cause. I hope Google knows what that means !

Cheers & thanks

Hi
If it wasn't for the apparent y on the end, I would have gone for Ague.

Adeline and Aduey SOLVED

The Dictionary of the Scots Language says that this word is or is related to ADILL - putrid discharge

None of the olde medical terms sites covered this.

I thank you all far taking time to help this poor sinner on the pretty wet coast of Canada

Cheers

Jack who says TS should have a link to this excellent resource
