Hi Jacqui...a warm welcome to TalkingScot! [scotland-flag]

I'm afraid I don't have any information for you on your Robert Kyle but hopefully someone will come along soon who might be able to help. :)

Added later: Jacqui, I just realized that you are possibly looking into a period that might be a bit too recent for discussion at TalkingScot since there is a possibility that Robert might still be alive. Have you tried asking on Genes Reunited? Also, take a look at this link http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5576 for further ideas.

Regards,
Anne H

Do you know where your dad was born and do you have his birth certificate?

Berwick Upon Tweed was the Depot for the King's Own Scottish Borderers.

1st Bn KOSB was in Malaya 1955-1958 including Singapore (1956) and then to Berlin from 1958 until 1961 when they moved to Aden.

Hello Jacqui,

I recently found the stone in Riddrie Park Cemetery for the above Robert McDonald Kyle.

Although the CWGC lists his parents, the following is the inscription from the stone to the best of my knowledge. (It's a family stone rather than a standard CWGC one and the inscription is quite worn.)

"In memory of JOHN KYLE died 21st? October 1935
And his father HUGH KYLE died ?? February 1940
Also his mother MARY PORTER died 21st March 1942
And ROBERT (McDONALD) KYLE died 7th April 1942 (age 34)"

The service number doesn't correspond and this Robert had a brother John - so this would this rule him out as being 'your' Robert Kyle?
