Hello after a long absence

Post by Maud Jarvis » Fri Jul 18, 2008 2:09 pm

Hi
I havenot been visitig the site for some time, Ijust do`ntknow where the time goes!!

Ikeep meaning to do so, and then berfore I know it months have flown past, and I still have not arrived.

However, my excuse is that I have been tied up with research on one of my ancestors, I had known he existed, ut that was all, then suddenly I discovered lots of info all abot him.
I had a vague memory of hearing tha one the family had been in India, but that was allI knew, nothing else, name etc was never mntioned,I do`nt know why, but mother was very relectant to disclose any information about the past, would never answer questions, so eventually I stopped asking.

Unfortunately I did not develop any interest in family history, until long after she had died. As she was the last of my relatives there is now no one who can answer any questions.
However, it is amazing just what I have uncovered, Inow realise why she did not answer questions, there have been quite a number of scandals etc that have been covered up, but I`ve now unearthed a great number of skeletons in the cupboard (she must be spinning in her grave now!!)

Considerng that a number of my ancestors were Scots born, they all seem to have left Scotlad and made their lives in foreign parts and in England (where I now live myself)
Sadly now that I am disabled, there isno chance that I will be a,eto return to Scotland for a holiday, howI wish I could, even if only tomake a visitt Edinburgh and see all the records, for myself.
When I think of all the years when I regularly visited Edinburgh, and never knew that all the history of my Scots ancestors was within my reach,I could kick myself now!
And to think that my mother and I often stayed over the weekend with my gt uncle , just a short distance from Princess St, the stories he could have revealed to me! I never knew then, that he was my grannie`s half-brother, and he could have told me all about my grannie (who died when I was 10years old) ah well, the past has gone now and its been hard work to uncover everyting, serves me right!

I must try and get here again, and find out some more about my Scots side.
Seeking any descendents from Ezekiel McCulloch, Port Glasgow, also Neil Barr (Greenock)

Hi Maud,

Nice to hear from you again!

I think we're all the same when it comes to wishing and regretting that we had asked more questions when people were still around...we live and learn! Still, for your Scottish ancestry, like those of us who are in far off lands or can't travel, do have Scotland's People to rely on...might not give us everything we need, but such a great source that I for one would be lost without.

Good luck with your continued search. :)

Regards,
Anne H
