Hello All
I have recently joined this site and have found it most rewarding so far. A few questions have already been answered simply by reading previous posts. One that had concerned me was the double marriage entries I had come across in my research, now I know why.
My research so far has covered areas of Perthshire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Aberdeenshire and Banffshire and there are still a few unanswered questions so I hope to post one or two of them soon.
Keep up the good work
Regards
Geoff Rogers

Hi Geoff
So pleased you have joined us and already found some useful information. Please post any queries as everyone here loves a puzzle and will be delighted to welly in to help.
Since I really enjoy being in and researching in the South of England (including and especially Hampshire and Wiltshire) myself I'm always happy to see people from there.
Looking forward expectantly to your questions.

Hi Geoff,
Welcome to Talking Scot
I have Sim and Mitchell in my tree from Aberdeenshire.
James Sim (1797 - 1858 died Cruden) married Margaret Mitchell (c1795 - before 1861). Also Peter Mitchell (c1772 - 1843 died New Deer).
Any connection?
Paula

Hello Anne
Thank you for the welcome.
All my Rogers family originate from around Winchester and I still live close by now. The record office is just down the road so is ideally situated for me.
The Scottish side is mainly on my Dad's mothers side. The Harper and Mitchell names are on my mother's side and the Mitchell's originate from Beith, Ayrshire. In fact this family will probably be my first question soon.
Regards
Geoff

Hello Paula
Thank you also for the welcome.
The James Sim (1797) in my tree originates from Cargill, Perthshire (born Coupar Angus) and the Mitchell's from Beith, Ayrshire. It doesn't look like they're of use to you, sorry.
Regards
Geoff

Hi again Geoff
The Hampshire record office has to be one of my favourite places on earth and they have the most extensive collection. You're fortunate to have such a good resource close by.
Many of my husband's ancestors come from around that part of the world. In fact his 4 x great grandfather was an apothecary in Stockbridge.

Hi Geoff
Belated welcome!
Beith is but 10 mins from my home, so if you've not been there and I can help with anything let me know.

Hi Liz
Thanks for the welcome.
I've had a look at some of the history of Beith during the search for my Harper/Mitchell ancestors in order to try and understand how they fitted into the place. Some of them also moved up the road a bit (8 miles probably) to Kilbarchan somewhere between 1845 and 1851. I've also read a bit about this place and it seems there was a lot going on there during the period my ancestors were there.
Regards
Geoff
