Hi Marion
Have you tried a search for the divorce at the National Archives of Scotland site?
www.nas.gov.uk
http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/
- try a search on the two surnames e.g. Brown AND Smith
Best wishes

Hi Marion
If you are going to Edinburgh and NAS, it might be a good idea to look up the reference number of the document you wish to see in the catalogue first and order it a couple of days before your visit. As far as I recall, divorce papers are not held in the building, they need to be brought in from Thomas Thomson House (TTH) which is not open to the public: this takes 1-2 days to have them there for you to view, probably at WRH, West Register House, in Charlotte Square.
Best wishes

Hello Marion,
If the local newspaper thought it newsworthy divorce proceedings may have been reported there.
A search of the Scotsman Archives may give a result and give an idea of the date but it can be expensive to get one article if the archives contain nothing else of interest.
