Hi Derek,

From the 1861 census page you uploaded, I found the following lot.

On the online IGI:
Robert Kim and Eliza Geddes married 10-Dec-1847, Urr, Kirkcudbrightshire

Children of Robert Kim and Elizabeth Geddes found on the online IGI.

MARY KIM - Birth: 28 FEB 1857 New Abbey, Kirkcudbrightshire
ROBERT KIM - Birth: 27 JUN 1859 Colvend, Kirkcudbrightshire
ELISABETH KIM - Birth: 26 AUG 1862 Tinwald, Dumfries-shire

Ancestry has them as the Kern family in the 1851 census in Irongray, Kirkcudbrightshire.
Robert (26, Terregles)
Elizabeth (27, Kirkcudbright)
John (2, Irongray)
Jane (1, Irongray)

Ancestry places them in Troqueer, Kirkcudbrightshire (surname Kim) in the 1871 census.
Robert (46, Urr)
Elizabeth (47, Urr)
Mary (14, New Abbey)
Elizabeth (4 ,Innerwick, Dumfries-shire)

And in 1881 in Terregles (surname Kim)
Robert (57, Terregles)
Elizabeth (59, Kirkcudbright)

The census surnames I have given are Ancestry's transcriptions and the Birth info are from the IGI transcriptions. You should view the original documents on ScotlandsPeople to see the names for yourself.

All the best,

AndrewP

When the image has been approved by Admin, you can find it in the Gallery under last uploads. Click on it there, and the next page should include the URL in the data in the file information section. Don't use the URL at the top of the page - that changes. The one in the file information is unique to your image, and won't change.

Or, the easier way is when one of the Admins approves the image, they normally look for the question regarding that image and add the link for you.

All the best,

Hi Derek,
I also have Keir in my tree and I have found them listed under all sorts of spellings. Keir/ Keirs/Keer/ Keers/Ker/Kers/Kerr/Kerrs/ Carr/Carrs as for Kim it depends on your sources. Ancestry has all sorts of typos in its transcriptions for all sorts of reasons. but sometimes the mistakes were very long ago. I remember looking for my Queates and was more than surprised when billy flemming found them hiding on the 1881 census as Meate. Queate/ Quate/Quiet even Queake I could handle but "M". Sometimes it helps to just use fornames and all the data you can fill in regarding birth dates and county and towns and then just hold onto your hat and scroll. But an early lesson I learned was never assume "this is how MY family spell their name"
