Welcome to
There's a listing on http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ for Mary McLean b. abt 1838, d. aft 1881, first wife of Robert. Maybe worth your while to get in contact with this poster?
There is only one listing for Mary McLean, just plug in the first and last name boxes and submit...you'll see the e-mail address of the poster.

Hello and welcome!
Have you tried ordering films from your local Family History Center? There is one film of church records in that time period, but it is Roman Catholic, Sint Joris parish. There is a church of England parish there also, but the film only covers 1819- 1830
There is also a series of films (123 of them!) of births (Geboorten) from 1795 to 1906. This looks more promising. There are annual and ten-year indexes (Tienjarige tafels).
There is one from 1833-1842 which should have your Mary if she was registered. The births themselves are in a separate film from the index, but I believe you can order 3 films at a time.
Don't let the Flemish (Dutch) worry you, it is not difficult to figure out what is indicated, given that it is names and years that are of interest!
To find your nearest Family History Center where you can order the films, go to http://www.familysearch.org and put in your location in the box at the bottom center of the home page.
Hope this helps! Let us know if you get somewhere, as others may want to search births in Belgium one day also!
All the best,
Sarah

thank you so much for info. I forgot to mention Mary was a British subject when born in Belguim..dont know if this makes a difference or not. There is a local chapter of LDS where I live and so far we have come up with zip.
I have her later history.Poor soul married a grandfather of mine and was found dead at the bottom of a stair in Edinburgh in 1907,which lead to an inquest..
thanks all

Belgium Records
Hi All,
Have been in contact with the LDS and am now going on Thurs to local chapter..They may have a record that I can or cannot view as it is an International record...will keep you posted...Think this one is in French rather than Dutch which is not a problem..Will keep you posted in-case others need research of Belgium.

Belgium Records
Hi Sarah,
I ordered Foreign records and returns for British Nationals...she was not in this film, however I think the wrong film was ordered. Will take your note about the Gerboorten births with me to the LDS and keep searching.
