Alexander Smith born 1880 Wishaw

Post by Asmiffy » Fri Oct 24, 2008 11:02 am

Trying to find further information on Alexander Smith born 6 Oct 1880 in Gold's Land, Wishaw, Lanark to a Thomas Smith & Agnes Morrison. Believe he was a coalminer, but not certain as to marriage, & when & where he died. Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]

I assume this is the Alexander Smith who shows up in the 1881 census in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, age 6 Mo. Father Thomas, coal miner, was born in England and mother Agnes in New Monkland?

Have you found him in the 1891 and 1901 censuses yet?
Do you know whether or not he stayed in Scotland?

It helps to let us know what sources you have already checked, so we're not duplicating efforts here.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah, yes I have all the census's. 1901 has him aged 20 living still with parents & brothers Thomas 27 & William 19, at 5 McAlpine street Wishaw, Cambusnethan. His occupation is coalminer. I know a reasonable amount about the others, but not much about him.
