I have a family buried in a Glasow cemetery. There is the father and his children, but funnily enough there is the name of a woman who I can't connect with the family in any way.
They were all in the early 1900's, because of the common name I haven't found any reference to her.
My Aunt who is now 88 has no recollection of this person. Is it likely that a neighbour or someone like that would be in the same grave? Or who else.?

If you contact Glasgow Cemeteries with the plot number they should be able to give you her age at death and hopefully that will help to narrow it down.

What details do you have on the Lair and where did you get them.

I mean is it information from the headstone ? or information from the cemetery records?

The headstone would often give the relationships of those intered there.

It is increasingly likely to find unrelated persons in graves, esp. in Glasow some of the cemeteries were privately operated and I know of 2 whose records were lost/muddled and folk were put in the wrong places.
Another reason is, as cemeteries are filling up, it has been harder to buy a lair so rather than allow a cremation many folks are willing to give the 'space' in a family lair to friends or distant family.

Hi Wini

I had a similar situation on a headstone in Perth. The family name on the main headstone was Malcolm, but a small additional plaque placed in front of the headstone had the name of a woman who's surname bore no relation to the family name.

Checking burial records confirmed the names but gave no indication of the relationship between the two.

It was a number of months later when I discovered that the woman was actually a daughter who had been married, and her married name had been used on the headstone and in the burial records.

This could be an avenue that you could explore. Were there any daughters in this family with the same first name as your mystery woman?

All the best

Bill

The information I have was attained by my old Auntie quite some years ago,
She got it from the Cemeteries board to the best of my knowledge.
I know headstones are not reliable because my Mother was cremated and her name is on my Grandmothers headstone . The Aunt mentioned above was married to my mothers brother and he wanted her name to be there with Granny and 3 brothers.

The one I am having trouble with is in the old part of Cathcart Cemetery and the information
is Samuel Gunn age 2 1902
Jessie Gunn age 2 1907
Dolina McPhee age 19 1904 She was Granny Gunn's sister
William Donald Gunn age 41 1913 Grandfather who was in the Police Force and they paid for the headstone.

Agnes McDonald The mystery woman

Samuel McPhee age 44 1931
This is the first time McPhee has been spelled this way. Generally the spelling is McPhie

Who do I write to regarding the age of Agnes.? Which may help.
Also William Donald Gunn was born in Durness and his wiffe Annie was born in Kilmuir Skye, added to that they were married in Logie Easter in Ross, so I suppose I should look for Agnes's birth and Census records there.

A very kind lady on RC took a photograph for me of the headstones but this one is pretty indecipherable.

I'd try Glasgow City Council land services first and they should be able to tell you who holds the records.-

SNAP:

You ladies must have been thinling the same thing at the same time.

This seems ridiculously confused but I think I have a connection.
William Donald Gunns sister's, daughter married a McDonald in Tain so this Agnes has got to be connected to him you would think, so I will go down that path but I will conatct
Cemeteries and Crematoria the link you both suggest to get her age and date of Death if possible

Thanks wini.
