Post by momat » Tue Mar 10, 2009 3:02 am

Hi all,

Don't know if this has been asked before ,but is there any Registry of Deed polls in Scotland or any where else for that matter ?

Cheers,
Maureen

Hi Maureen
As far as I remember, you do not need to change your name by deed poll in Scotland as you do in England, so I doubt there would be any list as such. A name change would be recorded as an RCE on the original birth entry.

I don't know how deed poll works in England, but it seems there are not lists there either:

Hi Maureen,

In Scotland there is no deed poll system. You can call yourself by whatever name you like, so long as it is not for fraudulent purposes or the like.

All the best,

i know that with a child , it had to be known as the new name for 2 years and be reg at say Drs , School , and maybe DSS , for the 2 years then they let you apply for a new cert with the new name after you provide proof these depts ,had known you for 2 years ,
then its purely a 2nd birth cert you get

That was the case a couple of years ago. The way things work has changed in Scotland in the last coupel of years. You can now apply for a change of name directly.
