Suicide

Post by bleckie » Mon Mar 23, 2009 8:47 pm

Hi All
Where would one find details of a suicide in 1868, There is no RCE listed on the death certificate, the informant is listed as an inspector of police.

Hi Bruce,

I don't have an answer to your question, but one thing - the informant was the Inspector of Poor, not Police.

All the best,

Hi Andrew
Sorry about that's what you get for reading what you think should be there or I must get back to optician's and get stronger pair of glasses for PC, using one all day dosn't help the eyesight or maybe it's just old age

Hello Bruce,

If you contact the archives at A K Bell library you may be lucky and find that they have the minute books for the poorhouse.

I recently contacted them by email and the archivist couldn't have been more helpful. I got lots of information about a child in Fowlis.

A list of what they hold can be found here.

Regards,
Annette

Scant on their information for all three poor souls.
Poor man driven to such desperation as to cut his throat.
Maybe the Archives will give you more info re his parentage & other family.

There is a short report in the Scotsman on 16 June 1868

Perthshire - Suicide - On Saturday morning, a lunatic pauper, named Alexander M'Donald, aged seventy years, residing at Pitnacree, near Logierait, cut his throat with a razor. Dr Reid, Aberfeldy was in attendance, but before the doctor arrived , the unfortunate man had expired.
