Hi there

When doing some BMD searches I came across a strange thing.

My GG Gran/Granddad had a child who was called John Donnelly and born 7/4/1896 and died in ww1 4/7/1915.but I found another birth and death entry for another John Donnelly( born to the same parents) :? who was born 19/11/1916 and died 30/3/1919

Is it usual to name your younger child after its brother /sister?.Ive never came across it before.

Yes, it was quite a common practice to name a child after a previously deceased sibling. I have several

While indexing burial entries for Familysearch.org yeaterday, I came across the deaths of three daughters to the one couple, all named Sarah Ann. So sad.

Of course it happened in my own tree too, and the first time I found it, it was confusing. But you'll soon get used to it, if you become an addict like the rest of us!
