The marriage of my gt gt grandparents, is a bit of a conundrum.
When my gt grandfather, James Morrison, was born 31st Jan.1866. On his birth certificate, his parent's marriage is given as '26th April 1865,Dundee.
When daughter Alice Black Morrison, was born 13th December,1872, at South Cobinshaw, the given date of parent's marriage, is, ? Dec 1862, Dundee.
Also, when I posted a similar request for information, on another site, 'I wish now that I had paid more attention', either Isabella, or Alice, was born in a poor house, suggesting , parents had decided it would be better to say that they were apart.
I am thinking that their was a birth registered as Connor , that being Ann (James Morrison's mum), was given as being Ann Connor, on James birth certificate.
Glad for any reply.
Gail

Hi Gail
Have you copies of the original birth entries from SP?
If not, that would seem like the first thing you need to do so that you can see exactly what they say.
Is Isabella another child to this couple? Is so, a search for her birth on SP should help you establish the address at which she was born.
Have you tried a search for the marriage? It may be that they were not married, perhaps and just gave a date to avoid awkward questions.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Gail,
On looking at the two birth certificates, the dates given for the parents' marriage are entirely different. It is not uncommon that if the year is wrong, the date is likely to be right otherwise. Not these - year, date and month all different between them. The only consistent factor is that they give the place as Dundee. There is no sign of any such marriage on ScotlandsPeople. My feeling is that they were not regularly married. They could have been irregularly married, but never declared that marriage to have it registered. Neither of these birth certificates implies that the birth was in a poorhouse of any sort.
Isabella's birth certificate shows a birth in the poorhouse.
You can see the full details of all of these if you download these certificates from ScotlandsPeople.

Thanks Andrew.
Had a wee look at the links you mentioned. (I really need to write all of these details in some order)
I looked at the death of a Susan Connor, 0 yrs, Dundee, that was mentioned. Parents are given as William Connor, and Ann Connor, nee Reilly.
Christian names are correct. But, unfortunately, no marriage details. Uncertain whether this is my rellie.
I will keep it aside, as I might find out a link, later.
