just when you thought you were safe -i am back lol

Post by Justjan » Fri May 01, 2009 4:55 pm

hi
i am back with a bit more info ,not exactly the stuff i really wanted but certainly a help ,
found my Grandparents had been in a few homes in Glasgow and not just the one add that we thought
found a Daughter Jessie born at 23 Hill Street Glasgow which we knew ,
they have Grace as being born at 21 Kerr Street , odd as shes on the hill street census 1901 ,then a Frances we didnt know about born at 19 London Street , last before my Mother was an Uncle born 1903 at 21 Peel Street ,
although its very bad copies , i can make out they applied for poor relief due to Jessie needing hospital treatment , so goign to assume shes died in 1904 , as i could never find her death ,
seems the help was refused i cant make reason out , seems liked shes had looks like Phthises ? bit sad to read really :(

Hi Justjan,
You have been very busy over the last weeks. Well done!
The trouble with family history is that sometimes you just want to, and often do have, a weep about the things you find out. With all the help available nowadays it is hard to imagine what some ancestors went through.

Hi Jan
seems liked shes had looks like Phthises ?
Phthisis is what we would call TB or tuberculosis today. It was also sometimes known as "consumption".

Best wishes
Lesley

oh dear
thanks Lesley , we knew there was a lot more children but not the easiest of names to search for little children ,
least we have found 2 and know one another Janet / Jessie born after 1910 , she died around 10/11 , she was the last ,
least we found a Frances , which proves the idea that my Grandad woudl have names one after his Sister
thanks again

This looks like the couple you mentioned - Charles D Stewart, 30y, was living at High Street, Renfrew with wife, Elizabeth. It says that he was born Scotland, therefore, not in that parish. He was a Sp. Deal [Spirit Dealer?].
Elizabeth was 25y, born Renfrewshire.
They had 5 children:
William B, 8; Elizabeth B, 6; John W R, 4; Robert P, 2; Margaret, 2; All born Renfrew.

not sure if i have right Charles , found one on Ancestory , he has given his places of birth what is supposed to be Causewayside in Paisley ,
age 16 a HLW , sadly no parents , supposed to be born 1825 ,
on SP i found a Charles born 1823 in Paisley but the Mother is a Eliz Findlay not Renfrew . and Father James ,
i know Charles gave the information to the man from Poor Relief ,
but on seeing some other records , there is mistakes ,
on my GrandFathers marriage it says his Father was a HLW , still looking for him on 1851 , its a long task ,
with names like this ,
