Bigamy?

Post by AnnieMack » Wed May 06, 2009 6:52 pm

I have a relative who married and there seems to be no children to the marriage, then a couple of years later he marries again stating he is a bachelor. I have tried every avenue to locate wife 1 but there is no record of her at NRH remarrying, dying, giving birth.....!

I am now working on the principle that I now don't need to prove the bigamy but instead disprove it as the lack of evidence otherwise kind of proves it....if you get my logic :D

I now need to widen my search but have mentally hit a brick wall. Any general suggestions? I haven't put any identifying details as this happened within the last 60 or so years.

Thanks!!

Sorry - no help to you whatsoever but I have one like that too. My husband's great grandfather married in 1892 and 1898 stating both times he was a bachelor.

I was able to find his first wife in 1891 and she was born at France. No sign of any children or a death for her in Scotland. I can only assume she went back to France  :? but I will never know.

Were you able to find a birth for his first wife?

regards,
Annette
