Married names
This may be a daft question with an obvious answer however bare with me. I am trying to find out my grandfather's sister's married name. Am I missing something or is this impossible to do through Scotland's People apart for viewing every entry with the same name. I have her birth details however I do not know who she married. I believe it was either in Aberdeen or Inverurie, so that narrows it down a bit.

I know it's a long shot, but did anyone emigrate? I accidentally found some information in a very round-about way: On the Ellis Island website, under the emigre' I did know about, it stated her destination as "sister Annie and brother-in-law, John Smith, Long Island, NY." I could then work backwards for a marriage record.
Good luck! Mary Ellen

Hi Andrew
Trying to trace forward in time is always more difficult than going backwards in time. For tasks like the one you are trying, best bet is to go to Park Circus in Glasgow or NRH* in Edinburgh and search all the marriages to that name.
Best wishes

Re: Married names
You could try searching for her death at SP and include her mother's maiden name. It depends when she died as to whether this would work. 1 credit may get you her married name this way.Andrew C. wrote:This may be a daft question with an obvious answer however bare with me. I've found lots of female relatives this way even without a mother's maiden name.

Annette

Married name is not an essential field when looking for death - it just helps if you know it.Andrew C. wrote:I have tried looking for the death however the married name is an essential field.
Worryingly I just looked for her birth and it wasn't there! I made the mistake of putting the sex as Male however and a James came up which may be a brother I wasn't aware of came up, so that may be worth looking at.

Annette
