Is this too much to ask please?

Post by ladybird » Wed May 27, 2009 10:03 am

Hi all
I found this record at NAS which is a possible for a George Steven (4x g/grandfather) that I'm looking for

GD244/1/368 Tack by George Skene of Rubislaw to Patrick Steven and George Steven, his son, 8/9/1763 (4 pages)

I heard back from Edinburgh that this will cost £10 for 4 pages but before I cough up nearly $40NZ I really would like a few clues as to George's occupation, if the document mentions that.
The George I'm looking for was a butler according to his daughter's death cert in 1856. She was born c1790 (1851 census gives her as born Aberdeen) so it's possible George (or his father) was in service around 1763 when the Tack was given.

Could anyone going to NAS have a wee peek and let me know if I'm on the right track here. I don't mind paying if it's going to be worthwhile

Thanks Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,
I can't pop in to NAS for you as I'm in Canada but I can let you know £10 = $25.81 NZ .
The pound is at $2.58 NZ just now. Not quite 4x. For a good currency conversion try this.
