Looking for Blairhall dumfermline

Post by maggie69 » Thu Jun 04, 2009 4:23 pm

Looking for the Church of Scotland in Blairhall that had a lay minister in 1959. His name was Charles ****** Looking for the name of the orphananage in Northern Ireland that the church collected money for. This was the orphanage that the lay preacher was brought up in and I cant find any details about him in Ireland except his marriage.

Maybe some parishioners will remember this orphanage.

<post edited as lay preacher's death date is after our cut-off date. LesleyB>

Hi Maggie
It seems that the parishoners of Blairhall now go to Culross, but not sure if this would have been the same in 1959.
http://www.s1culross.com/mini-sites/cul ... rn-church/
Serving the communities of Blairhall, Culross, High & Low Valleyfield, Newmills and Torryburn.
For a bit of history about the churches in the area see:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/FIF/pa ... ecords.htm
There are also contact details there for Fife Council Archive Centre who may be worth contacting if you get stuck, or perhaps contact the local church directly:
http://www.catch-up.org.uk/contact.html

There is also a Church called Church Of Holy Name about a mile and a half from Blairhall, at Station Road Shrub Cottage, Oakley, but it does not sound like a CoS type name to me, but I may be wrong. And a gospel hall in Blairhall:

If Charles died in Scotland, that might be another avenue to pursue, as his parents' name shoudl be given at that point, though as his date of death is after the SP cut-off year of 1959 the full entry will not be able to be downloaded.

Best wishes
Lesley
