Christian name Anaes

Post by frances » Mon Jun 15, 2009 7:36 pm

Has anyone ever come across the christian ANAES ? :?

I tried googling it thinking it may have been Gaelic for Angus , but it doesn't appear to be.

Looking for Anaes Anderson aged 35 in the 1871 census. Can't find his birth or death . He was a monumental sculptor/stone mason.

Hi Frances

I reckon it might be a version/mis-spelling of Aeneas - a name used often in the highlands.

Can you tell us where you have seen it? Original SR/OPR document? IGI? Ancestry transcription?

Could this be him with family in 1841 on Freecen?

And if that is the correct one, that 1855 marriage should also give his place of birth, confirming what was found in the census and his parents' names which should help you find his birth.

I just did a search on SP using Aneas as forename and Mac* ( for the sake of a surname) and found 5 OPRs. So it was a name in use.
