I received copy of Sasines allegedly pertaining to my G3 William Donaldson dated 1849 .
What I don’t understand is how these were linked to my particular G3 as it doesn’t give any personal information about him and is noted only as William Donaldson, Labourer in Forres.
His children’s births from 1847 to 1867 with the exception of two in Elgin are in Rathven. All censuses are Rathven and he is described as Labourer, Scavenger of Flesher on each.
Maybe his start in life was better than the end but I am just not getting is what it was that made who ever connected the two to know that this sasine belonged to this William Donaldson ?
I hope i have made some sense in the above - for a change

Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey
...but I am just not getting is what it was that made who ever connected the two to know that this sasine belonged to this William Donaldson ?
Who made the connnection to your William Donaldson? A researcher, another family historian, someone in an archive?
It may not be the case with this situation, but perhaps whoever it was has seen other documents which make the position clearer? I know I have built up pictures from several pieces of information or documents, inclusing sasines, which, if seen individually would be pretty inconclusive, it is only when you see all the documents and how the information links up that you would agree with the conclusions.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley
I check the Moray site quite often to see what, if anything, has been added or updated to any of my names on there. Recently i saw this Sasine information added to my William so i sent off for it and i received it today. There is nothing that i can see to say 100% it is connected to the right William or i should say my William. Finding out what happend to the land may give more detail

Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey
I don't know the web site, but is there any indication who added it to the site and to "your" William? Is there someone to contact to find out more?
Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks to Angel aka Heather and my family I have transcripts and copies of all poor relief but I never saw this Sasine attached to his Miscellaneous information before so I ordered it.
Brief snippets of the description from the Sasine of where this land is

This William is not “mine” (directly or that I know of) and seems to me to be a far more likely candidate to be buying / owning this land. Knowing how destitute mine were I doubted this sasine but then thought, well, the poor relief for them started 10 – 15 years after this Sasine so they may have had happier times to begin with but the more I (try) to read this and finding this census the less convinced I am.
Maybe I should contact them and ask
