Genes Reunited

Post by LesleyB » Mon Jun 22, 2009 6:55 pm

Hi all
Just had to share this one.
I've just received an email from GR, the title of which reads:

Lesley we've found matches for Unknown Unknown‏

Hmm...reallly helpful, huh??.
'spose it serves me right for putting such a name in my tree, but clearly I'm not the only one!

Best wishes
Lesley

Lesley,

Unknown unkown!

I have one of those, so we must have a match.

That means we are cousins an unknown number of times removed.

Ah, but were they from the same area

I got a "match" for James Geddes today - one was from Liberton the other from Paisley :?

A game of snap with GR's matchmaker would be interesting.
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

I elected not to receive any more mails about Hot Matches ! Most were colder than mama bear's porridge.

Unknown Unknown eh ?
It gets so confusing when surnames are used as forenames, doesn't it ?.
 Perhaps that means there was an Unknown female ancestor as well as an Unknown father. Were any of their children's names Unknown as well ?

It does highlight the disadvantages of sending a computer to do a man's (or woman's) work. I know I would never have traced my ancestors without computers and the internet but I sometimes wish the limitations of same were understood by those trying to make money from my addiction.

It would seem this email definitely belongs in the hall of infamous stupidity
