Nearest Catholic Convent School to.. SORTED MANY THANKS

Post by weepearlie » Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:22 pm

Hello
I would like to find which Convent Primary School, would have been nearest to my Mothers address, 20 St Peters Street, She used to talk of a steep hill. It would have been early 30s.
I have a group photo of her at school, But I have not a clue where it could have been.
Maybe someone might have some thoughts. I do not suppose it would still be there, but you never know, It seems that the tenament in St Peters st,. has gone.
Many thanks
wendy

I wonder if it could be The Convent of Mercy at 62 Hill Street. I only chose this because of the address  and it's fairly near St Peter's Street.
I have absolutely no idea if it had a school attached.

Annette

Apparently it did have a school.

From The Glasgow Guide-

'One of my friends went on to the Senior Secondary( Convent of Mercy ) the year after me, and I used to help her with her homework as she was just being taught the same lessons as I had in 1st year. The only difference was she got more Languages instead of Commercial. She wanted to go to St. Columba's but her parents were quite snobbish and would not allow her. In fact she sat the Qualie 3 times before getting the mark for the Senior School and was in my class in the Primary School when we first sat the Qualie.'

You can take a virtual walk up Hill Street with Google Street View, looks as though the school's still there. You can also see 62 Hill Street at the Virtual Mitchell site.

Annette

Hello Annette
Thank you so much for your help, that is brilliant. Mum always talked about a hill, trying to get up it in the winter.
