Wrong side of the blanket

Post by phillie » Sat Aug 08, 2009 10:09 pm

Hi, I'm very new to TS and not sure if this is the correct place to ask this. I've been researching now for about 8 years (it seems lomger sometimes) and about three years ago I was lucky enough to trace my late father's brother in Australia. He has sadly since died but in his letters he did manage to pass on a lot of family information. He tells me that my greta grandfather, Alexander Robertson, born 1865 in Aberdeen was born 'on the wrong side of the blanket' and thought that he was the sone of a noble man, he mentioned Perth but I don't know if this was where the man came from. I know that this happened a lot in those days so am not surprised, but this has made my research more difficult. I have found someone I think is the correct person, his mother's name was Christine Robertson, but that info is from his marriage cert. I can't find anything in any of the census. There are many Christina Robertsons but most have husbands. Can anyone help me on this one as I'm a bit stuck. :?

Hi Phillie:

From IGI http://www.familysearch.org - extracted from church records (there are also additional papers indexed there)

ALEXANDER ROBERTSON
Birth: 20 JUL 1864 Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland

Parents:
Mother: CHRISTINA ROBERTSON (no father is listed)

There are 2 records for Alexander Robertson when you select Old Machar in the County/City/Minor Records box.

All the best,
Frances

Assuming the above are the people you are searching: there are 5 records in the 1871 census for Alexander Robinson, Second Person Name: Christin*
Age 6-7

In the 1881census for Alexander Robinson, Second Person Name: Christin*
Age 16-17, there are two records.

Hope this helps
Frances
