I thought some of you might be interested in this special offer from ScotRail:
- If you are 55 or over, Club 55 is your ticket to anywhere in Scotland, and as far south as Carlisle and Berwick-upon-Tweed, for the amazing flat fare of £15 return.
Whether you fancy shopping in Glasgow, soaking up the scenery of the award winning West Highland line, or catching up with friends and family you haven’t seen in a while - you can do it all with Club 55. The only limit is your imagination!
Club 55 runs from 1 September until 13 December 2009 and you can make as many trips as you like during this period. So whatever you feel like doing, Club 55 gives you the perfect excuse to do it and all for one great price.

My Dad greatly enjoys using this, he's been to Skye, Mallaig, Aberdeen, Iona and even went to Orkney last summer. He's visited places he'd never been to before in all his 70-odd years living in Scotland.

Hi Wilma
My Dad greatly enjoys using this, he's been to Skye, Mallaig, Aberdeen, Iona and even went to Orkney last summer. He's visited places he'd never been to before in all his 70-odd years living in Scotland.
If your dad is over 70 is he not entitled to rail fares of £1 to some places in Scotland? I know many people who use this. It may be only in Fife that it applies, I don't know... you have to show your "My Fife" card to obtain the ticket at that price. There must be similar schemes elsewhere.

With your myfife card you can travel on all scheduled train services that run between any 2 stations within Fife, and also between Fife and Perth, Dundee or Edinburgh Waverley. When you show your myfife card at a Scotrail ticket office, you will pay a small fare for both single and return journeys. The discount you receive on your fare is substantial. You cannot travel with your discounted rate during peak times. The number of journeys you make is unlimited.
Best wishes

Thanks for that Lesley.
My Dad's in Glasgow though, he gets free on buses throughout the whole of Scotland and reduced fares on the subway/underground, but for railfares he only gets a half-price ticket outwith a certain distance.
The beauty of this offer is that you don't have to live in Scotland to get it, just prove you're over 55.

Hi Wilma
That is a shame - I was aware that folk I know in Glasgow did not seem to have a similar scheme. Not sure why Fife gets it so jammy, but I'll no be complaining when I'm elligible!
Best wishes

Is it still the women get old age pension & free travel pass at age 60 while for men its 65?
Is Club 55 just for Scottish residents; or, if you prove you were born in Scotland? Think the hamster is tired:)
