Not waiving but drowning !

Post by Tracey » Fri Sep 04, 2009 6:24 pm

Hope you are all alright up there north of the border. The news has been showing the bad rain your getting in certain parts.
The good part for some of us is that we get to see parts of Scotland we wouldnt ordinarily see !
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey
No great damage done, but we discovered a weak point in the roof tiles we did not know about!! Rained solid for 24hrs - flooding on the local roads with quite a few blocked drains too it seems. It was great when it stopped!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lelsey,

I hope you weren't "wet-footed" yourselves. Looks pretty bad on the news bulletins.

I am on raised ground a couple of miles from Fochabers and have just been to Elgin shopping - allot of the back roads are closed (including mine) so getting around is more awkward. It all came so fast - really heavy rain most of Thursday, but we've had as bad a few months ago, and no one dreamed it would flood over night like it did. I feel for those flooded for the third time in 12 years.

Maggie the news yesterday or the day before, made it sound like the whole of Elgin was on the verge of being evacuated. London and the South East have had quite af few flash floods over the past couple of years and they are not funny if you are caught in them.

There are specific areas in Elgin that get hit every time, right in the middle and along the Lossie. My office is one of them, so *if* it is open Monday we could be mopping out, it is still raining here - thought not as heavy... I know someone right on the edge of the last area to get evacuated and she has said she has been watching from her upstairs flat the firemen, police and coastguard evacuating people in boats, and the flood tourist watching, just a few meters from her. Only about four hundred houses were evacuated in Elgin, but there is maybe 1500-2000 house now - allot of new builds going on. Not trying to minimise the devastation, but Elgin hasn't been wiped off the map. :?

Hi all, I didn´t realise the seriousness of the weather in Scotland, not having heard about all the rain, so please don´t feel that I don´t sympathise.

I now see that my post above could be misinterpreted - I hope everything gets back to normal soon, and not too much damage has been done.

Hi

Last night it took us an hour and three different routes to get from Inverurie to our house which is 3 miles away. Two were too flooded for husband's low slung car to attempt though my little (fuel efficient) 4x4 which specialises in the manky Aberdeenshire roads might have got through one of them. It has been a real trial for some people and in particular the farmers.
