Not Sure of Name

Post by Miss Poohs » Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:52 pm

I'm looking for a rellie - again.

She was born Elizabeth Bonnar in 1884 to Rose Ann (Colquhoun) and James Bonnar.

She appears on the 1891 census, in Hamilton, with her dad, who states himself as a widower, and other members of her family.

Then in the 1901 census she appears with her (dead!! ) mum and new dad!!

The mum Rose Ann is now with a William Wright, and states herself as his wife (although they didn't really marry until 1913), and Elizabeth is now refered to as Lizzie Wright.

Anyway - I've been looking for a marriage or death cert for Lizzie, but I don't know if she'll be a Bonnar or a Wright, any tips?

Ta Muchly.

Been having a problem finding Elizabeth Bonnar living at Hamilton in 1891 at Ancestry.

Found Lizzie Wright at Bridgeton with William and Rose. Only problem is Ancestry is saying Rose is age 50 and William is 37. Is this correct? Strange that he gives Lizzie as his daughter but wee Kate McLean as his step grandaughter.

Regards,
Annette

Thats right Annette, there did seem to be a big age difference.

Thats another thing I don't understand - it says Katie is the step grand daughter, which is true - she is Lizzies' sisters wee girl, but it says Lizzie is Williams daughter, even though she isn't.

Rose and William didn't officially marry until 1913, 2 years after James Bonnar, Roses' first husband died.

So yes you have the correct family there.

647/00 027/00 014 - ref for the 1891 census, showing Lizzie Bonner with her dad, in Hamilton.

The name changes all the time Bonar, Bonnar, Boner, Bonner, and just to make this one even more interesting they made a mistake with her age, saying she was 17, when infact she was only 7 - born 1884.

Great fun eh?!! :D

Don't know how you managed to sort that one out at all!!!

Looking at the census records I would say we were talking about different people but I take it you have cross checked bmds to come up with the info you have.

Anyway to answer your original question - I think I'd start by looking for Elizabeth Bonn*r as there are only 2 deaths of that name and the right age. I assume you don't know her married name.

By the way Rose is living with William Wright in 1891 at Bridgeton having knocked 10 years off her age as in the 1901. Well who can blame her living with a man 24 years her junior! Out of interest (in other words I'm being nosey) what age did she give when her and William married?

Regards,
Annette

 Mad isn't it?!!

Rose Ann married William Wright 5 Sept 1913 in Hope St Glasgow by declaration in front of two of her other grand children - 1 of them being my husbands grandfather, James.

On the marriage cert he says he's 48 and she's down as 59.

Interestingly she also out lives her toy boy, as on her death cert she's stated as a widow to both her husbands.

She died in 1933 aged (allegedly) 90 of senility - bless her, bet she could tell a tale or two.

How freaky is this?

Rose and William lived on Monteith Street, Bridgeton, infact they lived there from when they married in 1913 up until he died there in 1926!!

Anyway I Googled the address to see if there was any info on it and there was.

Apparently there was a name change from Monteith St to wait for it....... Bonnar St!!!

That was Roseanns previous married name!!

Coincidence........... :o
