so confused
hello
i am so totally lost , i cant get anything in SP or FHC on these people
nor on Census ,
James Stewart Born 1837 ? on his marriage cert 1863 glasgow to Mary Ann Martin , he has his parents both decd ,they are Joseph and Jane m/s Harrison ,
as witnesses he has a Joseph and George Stewart , add for both is 7 ? James Road Glasgow , were still there 1867 , on 1871 census , then gone who knows where ,
only one i can get is their eldest Son born in 1863 Archibald Martin Stewart
he has gone to live with his Mothers folks , he is on every roll till 1901 ,
then i lose him too , found what could be him going to USA 1913 ,
he has a Wife ? cant get a marriage Jane is on the census ,
no children appear on the rolls with them , signed his Grandfathers death cert in 1893 ,
find this odd , then George Harrison his Brother goes from 1871 , not to be heard of till 1891 , then goes to SA in 1896 ,
cant get James and Mary Ann anywhere , although i have a Mary Ann going to USA 1877 ,
think i am so lost again
jannette

These appear to be the children born to Mary Martin and James Stewart.

There are corresponding deaths at SP for the triplets and Archibald's twin before 1871. Obviously I can't be 100% without checking.
There are corresponding entries for Edward, George and Mary at the Glasgow City Poorhouse in 1871 and you have Archibald living with his grandparents.
Regards,
Annette

goodness , it definatly has to be them , but no death coming over for the Mother and cant get one for James either , cant even get his birth not in scotland , nothing in FHC ,
suppose thats ended that part of the search eh ,
surely if the parents died there should be a death cert ? do you think they would put the children into the poorhouse and just go elsewhere ,
is there anywhere i can go from here ? as waiting on Georges death cert from South Africa , although i dont think its going to tell me anything we dont know ,
and still not made a connection to this lot and mt Grandfather apart from the Stewart name ,
as i cant tie a Joseph up with a Charles ,
although its good to get all this its very disapointing if you know what i mean
many thanks for all this , expect i have to try NY for Archibald now ,see where that takes me ,
thanks loads
jannette

There is a death in 1871 on SP of a Mary Ann Martin, other name Stewart, in Glasgow and appears to be aged 52 which is older than I'd expected for a marriage in 1863. Do you know for certain it is not this one?but no death coming over for the Mother
I once had a person died at age 38, but the age had been misread (the writing was not clear at all) and she was mistranscribed as died at age 58, so I'd not discount this one entirely until checked.
Best wishes
Lesley

hi lesley
yes i got that one in 1871 , but Mary Ann was born in 1841 going by her marriage cert ,
seems there is 2 , also found another Stewart thats Mother was a Harrison
so confusing ,
pulling out wrong certs in SP ,
leaving the Martins
i cant even find this Father of James - Joseph Stewart , who knows where he has come from , and cert i have seen werent him , just know James folks were both dead in 1863, but where they come from who can say

Archibald Marton 49
Mary Ann Marton 43
Mary Ann Marton 21 born Ireland
Martha Marton 19
There was more than one James Stewart/Mary Martin marriage. I think this could be the one you found.
MARY MARTIN
Marriages:
Spouse: JAMES STEWART
Marriage:
08 NOV 1840 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Don't want to confuse you any more than you are Jannette but I was talking about the death entry Lesley found in 1871 and not your Mary Ann.
Now I see Mary Ann senior's maiden name was Stewart maybe it was her.

Annette
