Can't find this on the website but STV News tonight reported that a book had been found in a cupboard at Glasgow City Chambers.
I didn't catch the whole report but the gist of it was - the book contains signatures and messages to families of American Servicemen who served in WW2. I think it was just before they were shipped out to Dunkirk.
It will be restored at The Mitchell then put online although I would think that will take a while.
Did anybody else see it to confirm details?
Regards,
Annette

Ok I found it:
STV 6 O'Clock News Central Wed 30th September
http://news.stv.tv/video/stv-news-at-si ... -20090930/
between 11:36 and 14 minutes of the programme.
It was found in a cupboard in the City Chambers, and will be restored by the Mitchell Library and on-line in the future.
They said it used to be in a Red Cross Social Club in Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow during the war and it's ordered by State and the GIs wrote their name home town an d sometimes a message.
Sounds very interesting.
By the looks of it it'll take a LONG time to do as it is a very thick book!
Well spotted Annette
