Thanks, Anne, I'll be going there in a couple of weeks and was trying to decide between Wednesday and Thursday. Now there's no difference! (Doesn't help my decision!)

Sarah

Well that's useful for those of us who can only manage to dash up there at weekends. Sheesh.

Hi Anne

Was there any indication as to why the opening hours have changed? Is it a staffing issue or something?
They don't seem to have updated the web pages which is likely to cause problems for people who are planning a visit and may not be aware things have changed... :?

Opening Hours
Monday-Thursday
9am-8pm
Friday, Saturday

Best wishes

See: http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... pening.htm

The actual Archives page rather than the general Mitchell page - you'll see that it had been updated.

I initially got the info from one of the Archivists (who's been trying to find stuff for me) and she said it was down to shortage of staff.

I imagine there'll be a few dissapointed folk who can only get there at weekends, but I suppose that we've been spoiled with it being opened on a Saturday - everywhere else (that I can think of) is Monday to Friday.

Who are owned by GCC, it similar to City Building etc, they have hived off the old GCC departments into "new" companies, a paperwork exercise at best

Anyway it shame Saturdays are not available anymore as i work 5 mins walk away and work Saturdays to 11am so always popped along afterwork once a month to get a few things checked out

What a blow that is! My autumn/winter Saturdays are often used to go to the Mitchell as I still have to work for a living and live in Perthshire. I am not a happy bunny but that is in some way understandable in the current financial climate.

Can't have some wee wummin needin her cludgie fixed and being told there is nae cash cos AnnieMack needs the archives open on a Settirday!!

 Annie I nearly needed a cludgie after reading your message.
I wouldn't mind paying a modest fee to search the Archives-after all everywhere else charges. Then if you're a local tax-payer you get it for free or is that just more bureacracy &no profit?
