Natural child - what is that?

Post by steiner » Fri Nov 27, 2009 9:34 pm

Found an entry in OPR for 1822 where the child born is described as "natural child".

The entry is under heading if Tannock - the child is named Mary White and the parents are Janet Tannock and John White.

What does the term "natural child" mean - the parents were not married as far as I know.

Thanks

Hi Steiner

Given the wording and use of "natural child" I'd be tending to think that the parents were not married. I think that is all that "natural child" implies.

Best wishes

As you say, it means the parent's were not married, but the child has been legally acknowledged by the father.
