Greenock Question

Post by Waverley » Sun Dec 13, 2009 2:37 am

Hi All
Trying to trace a relative who was an Inspector for The Society for the prevention of cruelty to children this would have been around 1946 my fathers uncle and I am assuming his name was Wilson.
If you could point me in the direction where I might trace him.

Hi Waverley
I've split your query from another topic - not sure why it was there - is there a Greenock connection?

Here on Talking Scot we cannot help with tracing folks who might still be alive or who may be recently deceased. A visit to NRH or Park Circus going through marriages and deaths may help as you have an occupation, but I doubt it would be a quick job given the surname you think was likely. I'd suggest first looking for a birth when you have the names of the parents to cross-reference (again if it is after 1908 you'd really need to go to NRH or Park Circus) and establish a forename and perhaps middle names which would make your search a bit easier.

Another angle might be to contact the "Society for the prevention of cruelty to children " to find out if they kept employee records, and if these are able to be viewed, but you may run into red tape there as many places who have these kind of records have 100yr closure on them.

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks LesleyB
I will try the Society first and I'm pretty sure the person will be deceased
