Neilson/Anderson Drummond/Mcgregor
Hi All,
This is my first posting so please forgive me if I haven't worded this very well.
I am trying to trace my fathers family and have so far come up with the following:
Isaac Neilson married Agnes (Cullen) (later Agnes McPherson) Both died before 1885
They had at least one Son called William born 1862
William Neilson married Martha Anderson (born 1862) in 1885
Children: Agnes/Martha/William/Walter/Mary/Bella/Andrew
William Neilson married Martha (or Margaret) Drummond in 1907
( Marthas parents were William Drummond & Margaret (Mcgregor)
William & Martha had at least one daughter, Martha born 1909
Martha Neilson married Thomas John Graham (from Belast) in 1926
Thier children were [all born after 1926]
I would love to hear from anybody who reconises any of the above history or who could offer any further information.
Many thanks in advance Rob Graham

Hi Rob
And welcome to Talking Scot.
IGI also has a son Walter b. 1860 at Shettleston, Lanarkshire to Isaac and Agnes.
As the couple appeared to have married in 1860 in Scotland, (again on IGI) then that would be worth downloading from Scotlands People as their ages, occupations, address at time of marriage and parents names will be given. This will help you find their births and help you track them on the census data, all of which will provide you with more information.
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: Neilson/Anderson Drummond/Mcgregor
Thanks for the replies so far.
I think I may have found some further info relating to Agnes Cullen.
Her Father was William Cullen born 1813 her Mother Mary Haggen born 1819.
Both of them lived somewhere in England before moving to Lanark Old Monkton.
1851 census (Scotlands people) shows the following:
William 38 Born England
Mary 32 Born England
Agnes Cullen 10 Born Lanark Old Monkton
John 8 Born Lanark Old Monkton
Richard 5 Born Lanark Old Monkton
Elixabeth 3 Born Lanark Old Monkton
William less than 1 Born Shettleston
Will keep you posted once I find out more.
Thanks again
Rob

Thanks again for the info.
On another website it shows Isaac Neilson and Helen Mckay's birth as Govan colliery, do you think that this means they were born at the colliery? Maybe there was some sort of medical unit there?

Back then, you did not tend to go into hospital or a "medical unit" to have a baby; you gave birth at home, or as often happens with a first child, if not too far away, you went back to your mother's, no doubt for moral and physical support and to benefit from the experience that your mother had from having her own children. On another website it shows Isaac Neilson and Helen Mckay's birth as Govan colliery, do you think that this means they were born at the colliery? Rob,
I think you might have transcribed Old Monkland as Old Monkton?
A few post up, there is an entry for 'Society Row', Crosshill. Crosshill is part of Baillieston and was in the district of Old Monkland Western.
