Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to search for all the owners of a particular property ?
I have just found the birth of my grandfather's cousin in 1907 in the first flat that I owned ! It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. My grandpa lived close by but never mentioned this connection , but I suspect they may have emigrated soon after as no further births or deaths can be found.
I have the details of all the owners of my present house dating back to 1878 ( and how much it sold for on each occasion )- but only because the previous owner was a bit of a hoarder and passed it all on to me. It is fascinating to read through it all.
Something makes me think that there is somewhere in Edinburgh that these things can be looked at - National Archives maybe ?
Thanks
Morag

Re: House History
Hi Morag
What you need is the Register of Sasines. It's kept by the Registers of Scotland. Go to www.ros.gov.uk
I think you can search online for free but, like SP, there is a fee to look at an actual record.

Re: House History
Thanks for that Muriel - it is really the names of the owners that I was looking for - although I don't think my lot actually owned the property. It was really just to see over the years how often it had changed hands. The Register of Scotland site starts too late for the dates I wanted but is really interesting though - good fun for being nosey !

Much of the historical sasine material can be searched on the PCs at NAS. See:
http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/sasines.asp
But for more recent records you'd need to contact ROS as mentioned.

Thanks Lesley - I'm sure that was what I was thinking about. I will try and organise a trip to Edinburgh.

You can also check the valuation rolls at NAS. Many are available online there through their Virtual Volumes.
