The Ancestry iPhone/iPod touch app

Post by Camilla » Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:32 pm

Just wondered if anyone here is using this? I downloaded it this morning, but so far it is proving somewhat awkward to use because it didn't want to let me log in (reviews suggest this is a common complaint).

I did eventually convince it by changing my password slightly on the main site, then trying again on the iPod. Was a faff, though. Then I found that it struggled with the largest of my three trees (which is still well below the 2,000-name upper limit for which Ancestry suggests the app functions best).

I'm hopeful it may get smoother as I persevere; I would love to have my tree in portable form to show to my mum when I visit her, as she doesn't have a PC.

At least it's free!

Hi Camilla,

Are you using genealogy software on a Mac? If so I use Reunion, which has a very cool iPhone app enabling me to take almost everything about with me. It's very easy to use.

There are several iphone apps for genealogy - Shrub and gedview get quite good reviews (neither is free but appear reasonably cheap) - pity I can't say the same about the iphone.
