I was recently rummaging around the IGI and came across an entry of interest only to find it doesn't state whether it is an extract or submission. Does anyone know if the code on the batch number is significant to separate submissions and extracts?
The batch number was I046619 and it was was for the christenings of two Terry sisters on the same day in 1797 in Kent.
Thanks for any input.

Re: IGI - submission or extract?
Hi Barbara,
If there is a C (christening) or an M (marriage) before the batch number it is an extract, otherwise assume it's a submission and do further research to prove it.
Happy searching.

Hi Ina,
Thanks for the reply.
This is an entry I have been looking for for years and I was disapointed that it was not definately an extract.
Guess it's back to the drawing board

I note it is listed here "as if" a normal batch number.

Not sure what the root source of this info is, though....The IGI "I" batch numbers relate to extracted records.
However, they (and some relatively recent 'C' and 'M' batches) have no source information.
and
Apparently it has been advised that the head of the London Family History centre has indicated that he will be happy to provide, on request, the source details for any such batch.
The London FHC has a website at:
http://www.londonfhc.org/
There's an email address on the site.

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for all your rooting around for me.
I had a feeling the letter in front of the numbers meant "something".
I will try emailing an enquiry off to LDs and London Family History and see if I can find out any more on this and I will post it here for future reference of others.

Re: IGI - submission or extract?
Well, I finally heard back from both the London FHC and my enquiry directly to the Family Search website, and am no further ahead
The London FHC said this:
I traced your information to the same IGI records for Eliz. and Ann Terry. The batch number begins with an I, which signifies that it is an Index record. Now, I'm sure that you would like to know what that is ... so would I
I think that the bottom line meaning is that it isn't going to lead to any more information about the source record.
and the website reply was this:
We appreciate your inquiry.
Order the following film to one of our Family History Centers, and you can read through the original records yourself
I did a bit of googling and found this site that lists the prefixes to the batch numbers with their meanings - for future reference!
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/IGI_Ba ... scriptions
Kind regards
Barb

Hi barb
If you understood more than 25% of that IGI source page a special Diploma Award will be given =D> =D> =D> - and the IGI will probably have to create another batch/film/source reference number to record the event

Crikes, the entry that reads:
I------ Index
is very helpful......not...
So, not much further forward as to where the original info was found.
Best wishes
