photobucket and tiff images

Post by speleobat2 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:47 pm

Hi all,

I was trying to upload a death certificate from 1858 to get some help reading a name and couldn't get photobucket to find the file on my computer even though I moved the image to my desktop. The image from SP is in the tiff format. Does Photobucket not recognize this format or is the problem my computer or what?

Hi Carol,

When you click on the Upload Image in Photobucket, the box that opens to let you select the file on your PC shows you a list of acceptable image file extensions.

They are .gif .jpg .jpeg .png .bmp Apparently tiff files aren't recognised by Photobucket.

When you are viewing your images on your PC, does the image viewer you use allow you to save them in one of Photobucket's acceptable formats? That could be the solution.

Hi Mary,

I think I've got it solved! I printed out a copy of the cert. and scanned it into my computer which made it a jpeg. Now I'm off to photobucket to try uploading it again!

go to http://www.irfanview.net/ and get a free copy of Infanview. You will then be able to open any image and re-save it in any other format. :o It's also great for looking at your downloaded certs, couldn't do with out it. Try reversing the image to get a negative, sometime helps to read that illusive handwriting :D

Thanks Alcluith! I'll take a look at irfranview. Downloading anything on my dial-up takes forever, but it would be worth it if I didn't have to all the copying, etc.

I second that - its a fabulous program and so easy to use - but thought I would mention that there are 2 parts which you will see online - the program and plugins. You need to download both. If my memory is correct the program is quite small - the plugins are the large size
