Hello All,
Does anyone know of a map(s) showing the boundaries of the Trinity (College) Kirk Parish, Tron Kirk,
and Old Grey Friars, Edinburgh, as it was 1781-1807 and how that compares with todays parish and street layout?
Many thanks
StuartC

Re: Parish Maps for Edinburgh
Hi Stuart,
Trinity College was one of the Quoad Sacra parishes within Edinburgh (City) Parish. Its boundaries were High Street from North Bridge to Leith Wynd (where the top part of Jeffrey Street is now, and leading from the corner in Jeffrey Street across East Market Street and the east end of the Waverley Station), down Leith Wynd to the corner in Calton Road (previously known as North Back of Canongate), a short distance west along Calton Road, across to North Bridge, then up North Bridge to the High Street.
Trinity College Church was demolished in 1848 when the railway line went through the valley into what became the Waverley Station. A fund was there to rebuild the church stone-by-stone on another site. Only a small part was ever rebuilt, and remains today as Trinity Apse in Chalmers Close, off the Royal Mile. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_College_Kirk
A map (1851?) showing the QS parishes of Edinburgh can be found at http://www.hoodfamily.info/misc/miscedinmaplarge.html . On that map you will see each of the QS parishes that you asked about. Various maps showing the area, some with parish boundaries can be found on the NLS Digital Library. See http://www.nls.uk/maps/towns/index.html#edinburgh-city
Much of the street layout of these areas remains to this day. Some of the buildings are still there too.
All the best,
AndrewP
