I think I am becoming a bit too obsessed with detail, but here goes anyway. Other than trawling through old newspapers (something I have done a lot of) can anyone tell me how I can find out if there was either a council election or a parliamentary by election in Ardrishaig, Argyll on 11 or 12 April 1919. I have some information contained in a detailed death notice that my g. grandmother attended a polling station in the village shortly before suffering a fatal stroke. I have already ascertained that there was no general election in that year. My g. grandmother was 52 when she died and was presumably taking advantage of the extension of the electoral franchise (to women over 30) that had taken place in 1918. Hoping somone can help a rather pedantic family researcher.

Hi Doddie,
According to The Scotsman Archives, there were Education Authority Elections in the County areas of Scotland on Friday 11th April 1919.
This was for the setting up of Education Authorities to replace the previous School Boards, as required by the Education (Scotland) Act 1918.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi AndrewP, thanks for getting in touch. I think the information about the Education Authority Elections is exactly what I was searching for especially when you take into consideration the specific date of the elections. Your reply is very much appreciated.
