Are you still a British Citizen if...

Post by Dennis » Wed May 19, 2010 6:04 am

If you are born in Scotland to Scottish parents, Scottish grandparents, and so on. Does the 10 year limit apply to you, as described in various portions of

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_na ... ed_Kingdom

If your parents decide to emigrate to foreign shores, with you in tow, and you are not yet 10 years old do you lose your British Citizenship?

Hi Dennis,

My interpretation of that paragraph is - if the child is born in the UK but to non UK parents and leaves before he is 10 years old he will lose his citizenship.
If you are born in the UK to UK parents then that paragraph doesn't apply as you will always be a British Citizen no matter where you go.

Regards,
Annette

I was born in Canada and have a British Passport because my father was born in Scotland, even though he emigrated to Canada when he was one year old. Every other Canadian with a father born in Scotland is also entitled to a British Passport.
