Hi,
I've traced my family history back to possibly a John Daniel born 1756 in Galashiels who had a son Andrew Daniel born 1799 in Lanton and was a gamekeeper.
Was wondering if anyone has any info on Daniels in the royal burgh of Jedburgh or any guidance in how I could find details of the estate on which Andrew may have worked as a gamekeeper?
Any info would be greatly appreciated...
Bruce

Hi Bruce, and a Warm Welcome to TalkingScot ![[scotland-flag] [scotland-flag]](./images/smilies/scotland-happy.gif)
On ScotlandsPeople (OPRs), searching birth 1754-58, there is one record of birth or christening for John Daniel in 1755.
There are 13 deaths for John Daniel between 1798 and 1854 in the OPRs. If you pull the list, you may be able to narrow it down by the location.
Also, a search for Andrew in the 1841 census aged 35-45 finds only 1. Increasing the age range with each census, shows only 1 Andrew Daniel in 1851, 1861 and 1871, but none in 1881. So it would appear that he died 1871-81, and narrowing it down, he died in 1873.
The census will include the place or name of his employer, his spouse and children and their ages, if he had any. If you can locate his marriage record, you may be able to get parental information, depending on the date.
Have you looked on the IGI -
