Banner Paper

Post by trish58 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 5:19 am

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to by "Banner Paper" to print a family tree ? have just been into my local Officeworks store and they don't sell it, I was pretty sure if it was available they would have it. I am only looking at A4 size ?

Thanks-Trish :)

Hi Trish,
I know that there are various companies that will do the printing for you if you send them a GEDCOM. This is one that has been recommended several times in another forum I belong to: http://www.familygraphics.com/ There is a page full of examples of the kind of family tree printing layouts they have done: http://www.familygraphics.com/GalleryPage.html

I'm sure it must be possible to get paper to do it yourself, if you have the right sort of printer, but I'm not sure where you'd get it.

Regards,
Sarah

Hello Trish,

As Sarah said, to print a banner on a continuous sheet of paper you will need a printer that can handle such a feat. My printer doesn’t support the use of banner paper. I rarely print anything so I’m probably not much help.

In my family history program I can print a wall chart that comes out as a lot of separate pages that have to be joined or maybe glued down on a roll of wallpaper or whatever.

I’m not having any luck finding an Australian retailer of banner paper. I saw a few online retailers selling what was described as banner paper but the description was usually too vague to know exactly what it was. Avery makes banner paper as per this ebay item but it is in the US with expensive postage. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-White-Banner ... 35ad963029

The Avery product number is 3272 and a search of the Australian Avery site for banner or that product number gives no result.

Do you have the information that you hope to print out on some sort of family tree program? If so, I'm sure other members who use that program can walk you through the process of producing a gedcom :D

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks Alan for you input, & Sarah yes I have Ancestry but the last time I thought I had done a great Gedcom download it ended up with only 600 people in the tree, instead of 4000. See what I mean :) :) Maybe I should give it another go, but I am always worried that I will lose everything.

Trish :)

Hi Trish,
How did you upload it to Ancestry? Do you have the information in a program on your computer that you then moved to Ancestry, or did you just type it into Ancestry from the beginning?

Yes Sarah

I have always used Ancestry and type my tree into them, then I followed their instructions, I am one of those people who need to be shown what to do rather than told, if I follow visual instruction I'm fine, guess we are all different.
Those banner trees are just great and would love to get a couple, so yes I will have to try again.

Good job I don't want them for Christmas presents :) :) :)

Thanks-Trish :)

If you think you might order from them, you could try contacting the folks at Heartland Family Graphics and see if they can advise you on how to do it. Surely, they must have run into this before!

Good luck!

Trish,

You can print off your family tree in multiple pages using Family Tree Maker, then tape them together making sure the wording matches. If you take these taped pages to Staples they will print it off for you on a large sheet of paper.

I've done this before.
